ELIZABETHTOWN, KY. — Amaray has expanded its stake in home-entertainment packaging by acquiring Infiniti Media Inc. of Los Angeles.
Infiniti has an injection molding facility in Paducah, Ky., that produces packaging for media such as CDs and DVDs. Amaray will relocate the manufacturing assets to its Elizabethtown, Ky., injection molding plant.
"The Infiniti acquisition demonstrates Amaray's continuing support of the media market as it transforms and consolidates," said Ted Brown, Amaray North America vice president and general manager, in an Aug. 15 news release.
"Infiniti's highly automated manufacturing assets are of excellent quality and provide press sizes that are not currently in our asset portfolio, which will help facilitate our growth in new product categories and new markets."
Amaray's main markets have been media, personal care, beverage and health care.
The company's 200,000-square-foot Elizabethtown plant and warehouse has 40 presses with clamping forces ranging from 110-450 tons, according to Amaray's website.
Amaray also operates an injection molding manufacturing plant in Pittsfield, Mass., that includes 28 presses from 80-420 tons and a mold shop in a 75,000-square-foot building.
Brown said the Infiniti purchase will improve efficiency and increase Amaray's capacity by 35 percent.
He did not know how many presses will be relocated to Elizabethtown.
Amaray also has molding plants in Corby, England, and Freden, Germany. It is a business unit of ASG, formerly known as AGI-Shorewood Group. The latter company was formed by the merger in early 2012 of AGI World and Shorewood Packaging, formerly the consumer packaging businesses of International Paper Co. AGI-Sherwood changed its name in early 2013.
Private investment firm Atlas Holdings LLC of Greenwich, Conn., owns ASG.
ASG focuses on specialty packaging and printing. Its other markets encompass health and cosmetics, consumer electronics, con¬fectionery and specialty foods, spirits and sporting goods. ASG comprises two legal entities: AGI-Shorewood U.S. and AGI-Shorewood International. In total they employ 3,000 in 19 global plastics and decorating facilities in North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America.
The injection molding operations are under the Amaray name.
